Logline: Renee Johnson, a mother living in South Central LA, must make a difficult decision when she’s late for her job interview.

Short Synopsis: On Time follows the life of Renee Johnson, a mother forced to make a dangerous decision for the sake of her child. Six months unemployed and desperate, Renee realizes this isn’t the life she want for her seven-year-old daughter, Imani. Renee receives an interview for a job, but her babysitter flakes. So on a hot, searing Los Angeles day, Renee leaves Imani in the car as she goes in for her interview. Renee lands the job, but walks outside to find a much worse scenario.

Info: On Time is a proof of concept piece made at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts from the larger feature script, Rough Around The Edges, which made it past the 1st round of The Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab. The script follows Renee Johnson’s larger arc through the loss of her child, juvenile dependency court, and gaining back her daughter. It is also an official selection of The American Black Film Festival’s HBO Short Film Competition.
